Illegal immigrants

To the Editor:

So, while you were enjoying the beauty of our beaches on this July 4th you could relax in the knowledge the sheriffs department’s deputies were back home patrolling the streets and watching over our homes and businesses. But wait, maybe not, apparently a lot of them were at the beach with us writing parking tickets. Seems they picked the busiest holiday of the summer, and probably the busiest 4th of July in years, to start writing tickets for parking “offenses” they seemed to not care about in the past. At least on Litchfield anyway. Folks received tickets for such hideous offenses as parking on the opposite side of the street from their direction, leaving a portion of their tires on the asphalt, and worst of all allowing their side mirror to jute out over the asphalt. I have to assume this is all in the name of public safety. After all that would be the sheriffs department’s mission, right? The protection and promotion of public safety that is. The sheriff department is not a profit center for the County, are they?

You know, I believe the State and the County encourages people to come here to vacation and enjoy patriotic holidays like the 4th, and spend their money here. They invite people to move here permanently as well. To make their homes and start new businesses here. So if people come like the State and County encourages them to do, then it follows you can expect more people on the beaches at holidays like the 4th, and then it also follows more cars that will need a place to park. Therefore, if people do what in fact the State and County encouraged them to do, then you would think we would make accommodations for the increased numbers, not ambush them with parking tickets. I suspect there are more than just a few travelers who will be looking else where for next summer’s vacation after their experience on the 4th.

By the way, if you’re wondering, I did not get a ticket as I was parked legally. But I would not have hesitated to park like many of those who did receive tickets if needed, because as I said tickets have not been written for these “offenses” on Litchfield in the past.
