Vicious dog shot with gun, Taser

Georgetown police had to use a gun and Taser to stop a vicious charging Bulldog Monday morning.

Animal Control Officer Shelley Brantley was sent to the 600 block of South Kaminski Street because of an abandoned dog. A neighbor said she was concerned for her children’s safety because of the dog. She said the owner moved out of the home about two weeks ago.

When Brantley got out of his truck, the dog stood up and started looking at him, the report states.

The dog had no food or water, was flea infested and very skinny, according to the description in the police report.

Brantly got in the back of his truck to place food in the dog trap which he planned to place on the ground. That is when, Brantley states, the dog charged towards the truck as if it were about to attack.

Brantley states he then “pulled my sidearm out and fired one shot downward toward the dog. The dog received an injury to the side of its lower jaw and ran back towards the steps,” Brantley reported.

Brantley called for backup and when two other offciers arrived, they tried to get the dog with the catch pole but the dog kept running away.

Additional officers were called to the scene because the dog was still acting in a vicious manner, according to the report.

Capt. Nelson Brown shot his Taser at the dog and Brantley was then able to place it in the trap.

The dog, Brantley states, was transported to the Saint Frances Animal Center where, due to its “physical condition and aggressiveness” it had to be sedated and then put down.

The next day an officer saw a man at the house where the Bulldog was found. He said the dog belonged to his mother.

He was issued a citation for Cruelty to Animals and must appear in court in August.
