  • Thursday, July 10, 2014

An 18-year-old Pawleys Island man says he was sitting on the beach when another man, same age, yanked the towel he was sitting on from underneath him. The suspect then reportedly approached the victim “in a threatening manner causing the victim to back away,” a Pawleys Island police report states.

The suspect then reportedly hit the victim on the head and shoulder with brass knuckles. He then grabbed the victim’s backpack and ran from the beach.

The suspect was seen driving away in a white Chevy Trailblazer.

The backpack contained $110 in cash, credit cards and clothing.

The suspect, who lives in North Carolina, is known by one of the witnesses. He sent a Snap Chat photo to the witness of him wearing the victim’s shirt.

The suspect was arrested for assault and battery and petit larceny.

Burglary reported

More than $9,200 worth of items were stolen from a home on Moss Dale Lane in Pawleys Island during a burglary June 25.

The burglary, the owner told deputies, occurred between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Items taken include: A laptop computer, $100 in change, two Tiffany necklaces, a high school ring, wedding bands, six watches, a golf range finder and an Iphone.

There are no suspects.

Scooter swiped

A $1,000 scooter was reported stolen from a home in the 100 block of Navigators Drive June 24.

The owner said the scooter, which had a lock on the front tire, was in her driveway when it was taken.

She said she does not know who would have taken the scooter.

Wallet stolen

A Pawleys Island woman said someone stole her wallet from her father-in-law’s vehicle while it was parked in the South End parking lot June 11. She said the wallet was under a seat and out of view but she left the windows partially rolled down.

She said the thief reached in and unlocked the car door.

The wallet contained $64 in cash and credit cards.

Flags stolen...again

A man from Greenwood, S.C., who owns a house in the 500 block of Myrtle Ave., reported two flags were stolen from the pole located between the rear of the house and the beach.

One flag is a red Citadel flag, the other was blue and orange with tiger.

The owner said this is second time the flags were stolen.

Dope offered to girls

A Pawleys Island police officer met with a woman from Gastonia, N.C. June 12 because her daughters, ages 10 and 13, were offered marijuana.

She said her girls were walking to the beach and when they got to the beach entrance near First Street they were met by two teenage boys and two girls.

She said the boys asked her daughters “if they wanted some weed,” the report states. She said her daughters returned to the beach house and told her what happened.

The boys who made the offer were identified. The father of one of the boys said he told his son he could not make such comments to strangers.

Kayak floats away

A kayak was reported missing from the dock behind the home at 570 Myrtle Ave. The owner said he last saw the kayak, valued at about $500, at 8 p.m. June 15.

Upon investigation it was determined because of the extremely high tide, the kayak floated away and was not stolen.

Information is subject to change as investigations proceed. Individuals arrested and/or charged have not been convicted.
