Eight rescued near Murrells Inlet after boat sinks

Eight people who were on a boat that began sinking near Murrells Inlet Sunday morning were rescued.

The United States Coast Guard, Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire and the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office boat team responded to the call when it was received at about 9 a.m.

According to scanner traffic, it was originally believed there were seven people on the boat when it started sinking near Paradise Buoy.

By 9:45 a.m., it was confirmed there had been eight people onboard and all had been removed from the water. The boat sank.

Also according to scanner traffic, only one of the eight required medical attention.

It is unknown what caused the boat to sink.
