One dead, others injured in Murrells Inlet traffic accident

At least six people were transported to Waccamaw Community Hospital and Grand Strand Medical Center as a result of a traffic accident at the intersection of Highways 17 Bypass and Business in Murrells Inlet.

It happened around 8:10 p.m. By 11 p.m., the South Carolina Highway Patrol listed the incident as a fatal accident on its website.

Multiple vehicles were reportedly involved, according to Central Dispatch and at least one overturned.

Some of the victims were initially entrapped but were freed once emergency crews arrived on the scene.

Ambulances from Midway Fire Rescue, Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire and Horry County responded to transport victims. Their condition of the survivors is unknown.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
