Mrs. Genelle Smith Abrams, 91, of Andrews, widow of Ollie James Abrams, passed away on Thurs., June 19, 2014, in Williamsburg Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Abrams was born March 30, 1923, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Richard Leon Smith and Etta Boyd Smith. She was a graduate of Andrews High School and Coker College. She retired after 32 years of teaching at Salters, Johnsonville, and Williamsburg Elementary Schools. Mrs. Abrams was a member of Spring Gulley Baptist Church, where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Union and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
Surviving are: her son, James Richard (Mary) Abrams Sr., of Andrews; grandson, James Richard (YeVonne) Abrams Jr, of Andrews; granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Abrams Pope, of Conway; and great grandchildren, Allison and James Abrams.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. on Sun., June 22, 2014, in Spring Gulley Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Williamsburg Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Spring Gulley Baptist Church, c/o Amanda Taylor, 2456 US Hwy 521, Andrews, SC 29510.
James M. Bassett, Jr., 90, widower of Rosa Neely Bassett, passed away on Fri., June 20, 2014 at Veterans Victory House in Walterboro.
Born on April 6, 1924 in Athol, Mass., Mr. Bassett was a son to the late James M. Bassett, Sr. and the late Hazel Newell Bassett. Mr. Bassett was a US Navy veteran having served in WWII and was a member of Screven Baptist Church and the Keystone Sunday school class. He was retired from International Paper Mill and was a member of the Pine Tree Club. Mr. Bassett enjoyed fishing and reading.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty B. McLeod and Jeanette B. Duncan (Paul), three grandchildren; Paige Fuhrer (Tim), Courtney Humphries (Robbie) and Kyle Duncan (Jessica), three great grandsons; three great granddaughters; one brother, Norman Bassett of Athol, Mass.; one sister, Helen Jewitt of Athol, Mass.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Mon., June 23, 2014 at Screven Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Williams officiating. Burial followed in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends one hour prior to the service.
