Police Blotter: Half clothed and just talking

  • Friday, June 20, 2014

A 26-year-old man and a woman were found by a Georgetown police officer half naked in a car parked by the water at Cravens Grant in Maryville at about 2:30 a.m. June 12.

The officer was on routine patrol when she saw the car by the boat landing in the undeveloped community.

“When I drove up, I observed a black male and a white female that were half clothed, who were eagerly searching around for their clothes to put back on and cover up,” the officer wrote in her report.

The man said the two were “just talking.” The officer responded by saying they must have been involved in more than conversation because they were “both half naked and breathing heavy.”

The officer also saw two open cans of beer in the center console of the SUV.

When asked, the man admitted there was a marijuana joint in the vehicle that belonged to him.

Because of the admission, the man was arrested.

The woman “was released from the scene after it was explained to her the seriousness of the charges she could have been charged with,” the report concludes.

Stolen truck

A deputy was sent to Dunbar Road, June 12, after a report that a vehicle, known to be stolen, was seen in that area.

The deputy met with the truck owner who said it had been stolen in Conway and he saw it before he called 911.

The officer went to the residence on Zeb Ford Road where the man said the truck was located.

There was a gathering of people at that location and the truck was parked near a funeral tent.

The owner also pointed out two men who were sitting under a tree as the ones he saw around the truck.

The deputy spoke to one of the men who said the truck belonged to him. When asked to show the registration, the 26-year-old man said he had been in Horry County at a gas station and “was jumped by some people.”

He said he saw the truck in the parking lot and it was unlocked with the engine running, so he jumped in and drove away to escape his attackers.

He said he did not call police about being attacked.

The man was taken to jail, charged with having stolen property.

Gunfire reported

There was a report of shots fired in the 300 block of Mintwood Ave. at about 8 p.m. June 11.

A 22-year-old man said a 17-year-old man pointed a rifle at him and pulled the trigger.

The victim said he was in the yard with his father when the man fired the gun from the road. The suspect fired a second shot in their direction about 15 minutes later.

The 22-year-old walked to the suspect’s house to speak with his dad about the shots but the suspect fired another shot in his direction. That is when he called 911.

Deputies found seven bullets and a knife in the suspect’s pocket. He was arrested for aggravated assault.

Stolen toolbox

A man from the 10500 block of Old Pee Dee Road said someone stole a toolbox full of tools from his yard June 8.

He said he has no idea who would have taken it and nothing else appeared to be missing.

Coins stolen

A man from Tradd Road in the Pleasant Hill area said sometime between June 8 and 11 someone went into his house and stole a square trunk which contained about $7,500 worth of silver coins.

They also took about $500 worth of pennies that were in a large jar and about $1,000 worth of other coins that were in bags.

He said money was also taken from his daughter’s purse which was in the foyer of the home.

He said the only time no one was home was for about 30 minutes on June 10. He said his daughter left the door unlocked while she was at a friend’s house during that time.

The man said the only ones in the area at that time were a neighbor and some tree service workers.

Information is subject to change as the investigation proceeds. Individuals arrested and/or charged have not been convicted.
