SAFESITTER: June 19-20. Program prepares young adolescents for the responsibilities of protecting children through hands-on training. Child must be 11-13 years of age to attend. Optimist club: The South Strand Optimist Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. at Applewood House of Pancakes. The Club will honor six deserving local law enforcement officers.

Island fest: The Rotary Club of Pawleys Island Island will be sponsoring Island Fest from 5 to 9 p.m. on the front lawn of Hampton Inn to benefit Alzheimerís Research.

LIBRARY BOARD: The Georgetown County Library Board meets at 5:30 p.m. at the library on Cleland St. in Georgetown.

Merchant Marines: Veterans of the Merchant Marines and all other services are invited to a meeting at the Veteranís Cafť, in the Plaza at the intersection of Bypass 17 and Route 707. animal rescue: Coastal Animal Rescue is holding an adoption event and fund raiser at their shelter at 1288 Limestone St., Murrells Inlet, from 11 a.m . to 4 p.m. All adoptions include, spay/neuter, shots and micro-chip. Dog adoption will include two training sessions in your home.
