Brookgreen presents evening offerings

Brookgreen Gardens will remain open until 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays through Aug. 8.

It will offer outdoor theater, concerts, and special programs just for kids. Entertainment and programs are included in garden admission.

Pontoon boat rides are available (at an additional fee) all three evenings and new this year, on Thursday evenings, special boat rides just for kids will be offered. Wednesday and Friday performances begin at 7 p.m.

Wednesday nights through July 2 – “Music Under the Oaks”

Thursday nights through Aug. 7 – Up Close at the Zoo – Jerry Walls, co-star of CBS television’s ‘Carolina Safari’, and Brookgreen Gardens’ Zoo Staff will present educational and interactive programs with live animals. Each week there will be a different animal focus. Programs will begin at 5 p.m. at the Campbell Center for American Sculpture outdoor patio and last about 45 minutes.

Live Performances in the Enchanted Storybook Forest – at 6 p.m. a character from a classic story or nursery rhyme will be on hand to thrill kids of all ages. Costumed and ready to engage our audiences, actors will share their versions of these tales and interact with the kids.

New boat ride – “A Child’s Frontier Life” – Travel back in time with early 1700s residents Esther and William Allston (characters) as your guides. Discover what life was like for the European settlers, the Native American children, and the wildlife that would have been all around them. Boat rides are at 6 and 7 p.m. (Tickets required - $8 adults, $4 children. Same day purchase only at Wall Lowcountry Center)

Friday nights through Aug. 8 – The popular Concerts on the Lawn series returns with new performers and favorites from last year.

On Wednesday and Friday evenings, the Pavilion Restaurant offers dinner until 8 p.m. and desserts and beverage are available for purchase on the Pavilion Patio during the concerts. On Thursday evenings, the Courtyard Cafe is open until 7 p.m.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to Wednesday and Friday performances. The Lowcountry Trail, the Zoo, Butterfly House, and Enchanted Storybook Forest close at 7 p.m.

Brookgreen Gardens is located on U.S. 17 between Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island.
