Waccamaw High preparing for Mud Run

  • Wednesday, June 18, 2014

Chris Sokoloski/South Strand News A mud pit waits to be filled next to the student parking lot at Waccamaw High School. The school’s Athletic Booster Club is hosting a Mud Run fundraiser on June 21.

Waccamaw High School will be the scene of some good “clean” fun on June 21, as the school’s Athletic Booster Club hosts the inaugural “Warrior Mud Run.”

The 5K course will feature more than 15 obstacles that will have to be completed, including tire flips, tire drags, mud pits and hay bales.

Volunteers have already dug the mud pits and have been getting the obstacles in place around the school.

Former Booster Club President Robbie Jones, who is overseeing the event, said the course will not traverse any of surrounding athletic fields.

Start times are 9 a.m. for individuals, 9:30 for male teams, 10 for co-ed teams, 10:30 for female teams, and 11 for kids.

Volunteers from Midway Fire Rescue will be on hand to hose down participants after the races.

Since the event is a “fun run,” no prizes will be given out to the top finishers.

Jones hopes to see at least 100 participants on Saturday.

There will be free refreshments for participants, and a concessions for sale for spectators.

There is no charge to come and watch the races.

Registration before Saturday is $180 per team, $50 per person or $25 per child.

Registration will continue Saturday morning until 8:30 a.m., but the cost increases to $220 per team and $60 per person. Children still pay $25.

Proceeds from the event go to the Booster Club.
