A scheduled power outage will occur overnight tonight in the Maryville area of the City of Georgetown. The outage will begin at about 3 a.m. Saturday and is expected to last four hours or less.
Alan Loveless, head of the city's electric utilities, says the outage is necessary because a piece of equipment owned by Santee Cooper is damaged and needs to be replaced before it fails. The entire substation needs to be de-energized in order for them to perform this work safely
Loveless said the outage tonight will affect all City of Georgetown Electric customers in Maryville. Even though the City provides water service to Belle Isle, City electric service is restricted to City limits. Any customers outside City limits will not be affected by the outage.
The outage was planned during overnight hours to minimize the inconvenience to our customers. An estimated 4 hours is planned for the outage, but if it is at all possible to perform the work more quickly, the outage time could be shorter.
