William Turner, age 64, of Bloomington, IN


Esther Ethridge

Esther Pearl Ethridge, age 92, of Georgetown, widow of Clifford Ethridge, died on Tues., June 3, 2014 at Kingstree Nursing Home.

She was born on Oct. 10, 1921 in Georgetown, a daughter of the late Pickney and Minnie Smith Swails.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Emily Ray; son, Phillip Ethridge; and brothers, Jim and Junior Swails.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Georgetown.

She is survived by her son, Charles Ethridge and wife Linda of Kingstree; and grandchildren Anthony and Patrick Ethridge, and Ginger Glover.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tues., June 10, 2014 at Oakgrove United Methodist Church in Georgetown.

Jacob Monte Jr.

Jacob Henry Monte Jr., age 86, of Georgetown died Wed., May 28, 2014, at Prince George HealthCare.

Mr. Monte was born in Greensboro, NC on September 16, 1928, a son of the late Jacob Henry Monte, Sr. and Marvel Milloway Monte.

He grew up in Georgetown, graduated from Winyah High School, and attended The Citadel.

Mr. Monte served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Naval Reserve.

He owned and operated Monte’s Shell Station and later operated Monte’s Auto Service until his retirement.

Mr. Monte spent a good portion of his time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and Helping Hands and was a very active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He loved to entertain people with his gift of being a great story-teller and was a long-time avid Boston Red Sox fan.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sat., June 14, 2014, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Officiating will be Pastor Ron Hartman.

A gathering of friends will immediately follow the service at the Church.
