A man was still hospitalized Friday morning recovering from injuries he received in a car vs. bicycle accident that occurred at Pawleys Island Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened near the Pawleys Island Village Shops.

The driver of the car was also taken to the hospital with less severe injuries.

A medical helicopter was requested but could not respond due to weather so the bicyclist was transported to Grand Strand Medical Center by ambulance.

A family member told South Strand News the bicyclist was alert and talking in the hospital and suffered a severe head injury. The family member said the victim was hit by another car earlier this year on Highway 17.

The accident is still under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
