Zaleane Wilson

Barbara Evans LeGette, age 71, of Charleston

FUNERAL SERVICES

Earl Coxum

Earl Krandell Coxum, age 56, of Georgetown died on May 28, 2014 while a patient at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held on June 3, 2014 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel, conducted by Rev. Donel White, Pastor, Pentecostals of Georgetown.

Mr. Coxum was born on Jan. 23, 1958 in Georgetown, a son of Homer Lee Coxum and Mrs. Margaret Singleton Coxum.

He attended the public schools of Georgetown County and for several years worked as a landscaper for Arcadia Plantation.

He is survived by one brother, Vernon Lee Coxum of Georgetown; four sisters, Dorothy Mack and Mary Keith, both of Georgetown, Sarah Mae Grant of Charleston; Mary Elizabeth Coxum of Baltimore, MD; and his long term companion, Aretha Knox of Georgetown.

Funeral services are entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.

Arlene Joseph

Arlene Wilcox Joseph, age 91, of Georgetown, widow of Dr. John A. Joseph Sr., died Mon., June 2, 2014, at her residence.

Mrs. Joseph was born in Steele City, NE on Dec. 4, 1922, a daughter of the late Chester Wilcox and Beulah Babcock Wilcox.

She grew up in Steele City, graduated from Hastings College, and was a school teacher for a time.

Mrs. Joseph later moved to Bruning, NE, where she met her husband while working as a secretary at Bruning Army Airfield.

Dr. and Mrs. Joseph were married in 1943 and moved to Georgetown in 1945.

Mrs. Joseph was a member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church for 70 years, where she was a choir member for 45 years.

Surviving are three sons, Dr. Thomas C. Joseph (Sharon) of Camden, Dr. John A. Joseph Jr. (Susan) of Georgetown, and Raad W. Joseph (Daphne) of Columbia; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ronald Wilcox of Oregon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thurs., June 5, 2014, at Georgetown Presbyterian Church.

Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Stephen H. Wilkins.

Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

A reception will be held prior to the funeral service on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Church Fellowship Hall.

The family will receive friends on Wed., June 4, 2014, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.

Bette Lachicotte

Bette Robertson Lachicotte, age 92, of Pawleys Island, widow of Philip R. Lachicotte IV, died Fri., May 30, 2014, at her residence.

Mrs. Lachicotte was born in Fernleaf, KY on Jan. 15, 1922, a daughter of the late Allen Craig Robertson and Ruth Norris Robertson.

She grew up in Minerva, KY, graduated from Minerva High School, and attended Anderson College.

Mrs. Lachicotte moved to Pawleys Island in 1954 from Tacoma, WA and worked at The Hammock Shops.

She was a communicant of All Saints Church and served her church as treasurer, choir member, Alter Guild member, and organist at Sunday school.

Surviving are a son, Philip “Chip” Lachicotte of Pawleys Island; a daughter, Ellen Lachicotte of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Henry Robertson of Peebles, OH; a sister, Jane Roberts of Summerville; and two grandsons, Philip Lachicotte of Colorado Springs, CO, and Bentley Lachicotte of Pawleys Island.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Tues., June 3, 2014, at the old All Saints Church.

Officiating was the Rev. Timothy Surratt. Inurnment followed in All Saints Churchyard.

The family received friends on Mon., June 2, 2014, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.

Carolyn Lewis

Carolyn Faye Lewis, age 59, of Georgetown died Wed., May 21, 2014 at Lexington Medical Center.

Mrs. Lewis was born on Dec. 29, 1954 in Dunlap, TN, a daughter of the late Johnnie Lee and Thelma Byrd Hunter Brown. She was predeceased by her brothers, Richard E. Brown and Jerry Doyle Brown.

She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Ann Hudgens and husband Harold Pike of Candler, NC; her son, Keith Dale Hudgens of Asheville, NC; her stepson, Damon Trent Lewis of White Rock, SC; four brothers, Daniel David Brown, Larry Lee Brown, Johnny Bruce Brown, and Billy Gregory Brown; and sister, Marilyn Kay Well, her identical twin.

She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4 p.m. on Fri., June 6, 2014 at Woodland Terrace Missionary Baptist Church in Asheville, NC. Officiating will be Rev. Earl Reese.

Iva Lockliear

Iva Long Lockliear, age 82, of Trio, widow of Cecil Rufus Lockliear, died Thurs., May 29, 2014, at her residence.

Mrs. Lockliear was born in Williamsburg Co. on August 9, 1931, a daughter of the late Kizzie Bell Long. She grew up in the Andrews area and attended Andrews High School.

She was a member of Trio United Methodist Church and attended First Baptist Church of Andrews for over 20 years. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Surviving are six sons, Mark Lockliear (Jackie), Keith Lockliear (Patsy), Lynn Lockliear (Nancy), John Woody Lockliear (Donna), and Rufus Lockliear (Carolyn), all of Trio, and Thomas Lockliear (Althea) of Vox; three daughters, Melonie Richardson (Michael) of Andrews, Montie Lambert (Charlie) of Trio, and Cecilia Brown (Jeff) of Boone, N.C.; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Iris Matthews of Georgetown.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sun., June 1, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Andrews.

Officiating were the Rev. Paul Sapp and the Rev. Gary Adams.

Burial followed at Andrews Memorial Cemetery.

The family received friends on Sat., May 31, 2014, at the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m.

Joyce Tilley

Joyce (Gayenelle) Woodlief Tilley of Rocky Mount, NC died peacefully on Sun., June 1, 2014 at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Raleigh, NC.

She was born August 26, 1928 to the late Aubrey Woodlief Sr. and Sarah Powell Woodlief.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thompson Milton Tilley; and brothers, Bervin, Fleming, Maynard, Woodrow and Aubrey Jr.; and sisters, Selene Wright, Ione King, Hortense Gibson, Nadine Bradley and Clina Wheeler.

Joyce was a fiercely independent lady who was involved in many volunteer organizations and was dedicated to her Christian faith and serving the Lord in many aspects of her life.

She deeply loved her children and family. One of the happiest times in her life was working for the Rocky Mount Fire Department as an administrative assistant to the chief.

Many would say she thought she was in charge of the Fire Department. Her family is so appreciative of the love and caring from the firemen over the years as they became her second family.

Her dedication to her faith included being a charter member of Edgemont Baptist Church, charter member of Northside Baptist, and she remained a current member of First Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. She was actively involved with the North Roanoke Baptist Association in leadership roles, Women’s Missionary Union, served most of her adult life as a Sunday School teacher, and served in many other roles for which she was called with her church and community.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Tilley Thompson and husband John of Raleigh; son, Timothy Mac Tilley and wife, Rose, of Georgetown; grandchildren, Jacob Thompson Arthur and wife Lisa, Amanda Arthur Kent and husband Patrick; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Ella Grace and Samantha Arthur and Daniel Kent, all of Raleigh.

Her one living sibling is Lavoy Adams of Durham and she had many special nieces and nephews as well.

The family received friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tues., June 3, 2014 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home.

A service to remember Joyce will be held at 11 a.m. on Wed., June 4, 2014, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Bill Grisham and Rev. Larry Curtis officiating.

Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.

The family is thankful to the staff at Elmcroft, Dr. Lalita Sidana, and the entire Transitions LifeCare Team from Hospice for their support during her illness.

Flowers will be accepted but the family requests memorials be made in her memory to First Baptist Church, 200 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or the RM Fire Department Benevolent Fund, 375 East Raleigh Blvd, Rocky Mount NC 27801.

Zaleane Wilson

Zaleane B. Wilson, age 73, of Georgetown died on May 27, 2014 at her residence.

Funeral services were held on May 31, 2014 at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Pawleys Island where Rev. Jerome Smalls is pastor.

Mrs. Wilson was born on Aug. 5, 1940 in Georgetown.

She attended the public schools of Georgetown County and for several years afterwards worked for the Georgetown County Recycling Plant. She was married to Nathaniel Wilson.

She is survived by her husband, Nathaniel Wilson; two sons, James L. Hughes of Georgetown, Ronald Hughes of Conway; three daughters, Marci Myers of Longs, Zella Grant of Pawleys Island, Wanda Renee’ Hughes of Georgetown, and Hilda Greene (who was reared as a daughter); 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother and one sister, Roosevelt Bryant and Betty B. Grier, both of Hemingway.

Funeral services were entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.
