Man accused of Kangaroo store robbery arrested

A man accused of robbing a Georgetown convenience store over the weekend has been arrested.

Georgetown police say that William G. McCray, 47, of Georgetown was arrested Monday night in Williamsburg County. He is charged with armed robbery and robbery while armed with a deadly weapon.

This arrest is in connection with the armed robbery that occurred at the Kangaroo located at 2602 Highmarket Street in Georgetown at about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police Capt. Nelson Brown said the suspect presented a knife and demanded money. He was given an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene.

Georgetown Police Chief Paul Gardner said McCray was arrested with help from the Hemingway Police Department.

“The assistance of the public is vital in curbing crime in our communities”, Chief Paul Gardner commented.
