To the Editor:
Mr. and Mrs. James Jerow’s recent letter supporting Bob Anderson for the Georgetown County Council was very interesting. They say that Mr. Anderson is a Conservative Republican. So is his opponent Steve Goggans. They say that Mr. Anderson cares about his church, family, friends, our state, and our country. The same can be said for Steve Goggans.
As a resident of the district, I am upset with Mr. Anderson’s lack of response to the citizens of his district. In our district, we have had discussions going on about changes to Route 17. I am not attempting to argue one side or the other on the work on 17. Disturbing to me was the fact that Mr. Anderson refused to discuss this with the residents. He said he could not stop the project for discussions. However, Sen. Cleary and other State Senators have said in writing that the it was possible even now, but only if the County Councilmen made the request. Mr. Anderson refuses to make the request.
As a former public official, I know there are many hard decisions to make. Any decision is not going to please all the residents. But the most important thing an official can do is listen to the residents of his district. Steve Goggans told me he would listen to anyone in the district. He does not guarentee to agree with your ideas, but he will be a councilman that will listen to you. He would listen to Mr. and Mrs. Jerow even though they do not live in our district.
