Andrews Police Chief K. Capers and Lieutenant Taylor spearheaded the arrest of three men and charged them with burglaries in the town of Andrews.
“Saul Davis, was the first that we arrested, followed by the arrest of Arnold Scott and Anthony McCray,” Capers said, adding the fourth man, Saul McGill, is still on the run, although the police have some leads.
Davis, McCray and Scott are being held at the Georgetown County jail.
Capers, who took over one month ago, said Lieutenant Taylor is now the assistant chief and the ‘go to guy’ in the chief’s absence.
“We had a tip and confiscated some stuff from a pawn shop in Monk’s Corner,” he said. “And the second suspect told us some of the things he had at his house.”
“When we went there was a majority of the stuff that was stolen.”
Six officers and volunteers were involved and the chief said it was a team effort.
“I call it Team Andrews and we’ve kind of adopted a motto here the dream don’t work if the team don’t work.”
“We are building morale in Andrews,” Capers said. “We’re going to make sure the citizens of Andrews have a safe place to live, safe place to work.
“Anyone that wants to cause trouble or bring trouble to Andrews we will put them some place for rehabilitation and that would be the county detention center or prison.”
Capers said the main thing the police department wants to do is make sure the hard working people of Andrews that lost their belongings during this series of burglaries is that they get their belongings back and get some piece of mind.
Some of the burglaries occurred 14-15 months ago.
“And that they know the Andrews police department is here to serve and protect them and to make sure things like this don’t happen,” he added. “Now that we got this out of the way we are going to a proactive stage, to be very proactive to be sure things like this don’t happen again.”
According to Capers, the police department is working on contacting the people to come and see about their belongings.
“We are notifying the people we have the stuff,” he said, some of which includes tools, power tools, lawn mowers, fishing gear and outdoor maintenance gear.”
