To the Editor:
Local Republican Party leaders must be very disappointed and perplexed by Steve Goggans’ campaign for Georgetown County Council.
He filed as a Republican to run in the Republican primary and then promptly renounced his party affiliation by refusing to use the word “Republican” anywhere in his campaign.
I cannot recall such behavior on the part of a candidate for a political party’s nomination for office.
Steve has been courting Democrats to vote for him by openly advertising for them to vote for him in the Republican primary.
He’s even cozied up to Democrats by speaking to their Pawleys Island group last month. The group, LivingLiberally.org, announced on their blog that he was the only Republican ever invited to speak.
This is the same group that has steadfastly supported only extremely liberal candidates.
Local GOP leaders have also got to be disappointed to find that Steve has helped fund the campaigns for liberal Democrats Jack Scoville and Vida Miller against the Republican nominees for those offices.
The only real Republican in this race is Bob Anderson, who is proud of his affiliation with the party and what it stands for. He deserves our support.
I believe the local Republican Party is on solid ground to take action against Steve Goggans’ false candidacy.
