Joan A. Knowlin weds Joshua L. Johnson

The Knowlin-Johnson wedding was held on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at the Embassy Suites in Charleston.

Miss Joan Aida Knowlin and Mr. Joshua Lemont Johnson were united in holy matrimony on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at the Embassy Suites in Charleston. Performing the 1 p.m. ceremony were Rev. Rose Goodwater and Rev. Joe Canteen (Retired), both former Pastors of the bride.

The bride, daughter of Pastor Joe and Mrs. Doris Knowlin was given in marriage by her father and mother. A graduate of Andrews High School, Grambling State University, and Ashford University the bride wore a white strapless gown flowing with side ruching and pleats with a rhinestone belt. A feathered birdcage and rhinestone accessories accentuated the dress. She is employed as a special education teacher at Carpenter Elementary School in Plano, TX.

The groom, son of Mrs. Martha Johnson and Mr. Elbert and Alicia Johnson of Monroe, LA is a graduate of Carroll High School and Grambling State University. He wore a slate grey tuxedo with a white bow tie and vest. He is employed with Autonation Incorporated.

The Matron of Honor was Monique Saunders and the Maid of Honor was Shalonda Skidmore. Bridesmaids were Mikwonjillian Antwih, Shawn Bowman, Tiffany Gasque, Tabitha Johnson, Lauren Knowlin and Regina Robinson.

Serving as Best Man was Anthony Clomon. Other groomsmen were Donald Covington, Joe Knowlin, II, Jerome Simpson, Melvin Smith and Maurice Wragg.

Flower girls were Lyric Dennison and Aundrea Simpson and the Ring Bearer was Evan Simpson. Hostesses were Amber Bowman, Jerre’ Gowdy, Talmesha Strickland, and Christina Wragg.

Music was provided by Joe Knowlin, II and soloists were Janee Bradford and Tomika Grimmage. The wedding coordinator was Rev. Linda Canteen, hair stylist to the Bride was Christina Dennison Brown, The florist was Eddie Gates (Flowers by Eddie), the wedding cake by Jenette Canteen, photographer Alisha Richard (EyeShadow Photography) and the make-up artist was Paris Rushing of Charleston.

On Nov. 16, 2013 a “Fall into Love” themed bridal shower was hosted by Shalonda Skidmore and the bridesmaids in Dallas, TX. On Jan. 4, 2014 a “Kitchen, Bed and Bath” shower was hosted at Land’s End Restaurant in Georgetown by Cecelia Wragg, Joann and Shawn Bowman and Lauren Knowlin. A “Drop-in” shower was hosted by the faculty of Carpenter Middle School on Feb.24; and a Post wedding dinner was hosted by Pastor and Mrs. Earl Bill and the members of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, TX on Feb. 23. The Rehearsal dinner, catered by The Rotunda of Santee, was given by Ms. Martha and Mr. Elbert Johnson, parents of the groom. The bride and groom will honeymoon in The Grand Cayman Islands this summer.
