Bears snag five state titles

Carvers Bay’s track and field team brought home five state titles last weekend.

Lewis Morant won the 100-meters (10.73) and 200-meters (21.60); the boys relay team won the 4x100 (43.52) and the 4x400 (3:31.30); and the girls won the 4x400 (4.16.54).

Other results:

Demasio Timmons of Carvers Bay was second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.83), second in the 400-meter hurdles (57.92).

Desaree Green of Carvers Bay was second in the high jump (5 feet), second in the long jump (17 feet, 1 inch).

J.J. Sherman of Waccamaw was second in the 400-meters (49.65), third in the 200-meters (22.32), fifth in the long jump (21 feet, 8¼ inches), seventh in the 100-meters (11.26).

Briley Arnold of Waccamaw was second in the 400-meters (1:09.73).

Quemell Brave of Georgetown was third in the triple jump (44 feet, 4½ inches), fourth in the long jump (21 feet, 2 inches).

Danielle Richardson of Georgetown as third in the long jump (17 feet, 8½ inches).

Naquez Pringle of Carvers Bay was fourth in the shot put (48 feet, 1 inch).

Robert Jones was fourth in the 1,600-meters (4:42.50), eighth in the 3,200-meters (11:16.15).

Amelia Jones of Waccamaw was fourth in the 3,200-meters (12:05.89).

D’Etta Green of Waccamaw was fourth in the high jump (5 feet).

Tiera Young of Carvers Bay was fifth in the 800-meters (2:34.68), fifth in the 1,600-meters (6:33.36).

Timothy Young of Carvers Bay was seventh in the 800-meters (2:15.62).

Xavier Drayton of Carvers Bay was seventh in the 1,600-meters (5:11.23), seventh in the 3,200-meters (12:01.87).

O’Neal Johnson of Carvers Bay was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (17.15).

Anastashia Bromell of Carvers Bay was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:18.98).

Qunazia Gardner of Georgetown was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (17.43).

Devin Cuttino of Carvers Bay was eighth in the long jump (19 feet, 7½ inches).

Derrick Hannah of Georgetown was eighth in the 400-meters (51.21).

Mary Butler DeSpain of Waccamaw was eighth in the 800-meters (2:34.79).

LeAnne Thompson of Waccamaw was eighth in the shot put (30 feet).

Alex Hight of Waccamaw was eighth in the discus (63 feet, 7 inches).

Relay teams: Waccamaw’s girls were third in the 4x800 (10.32.47), Carvers Bay’s boys were seventh in the 4x800 (9:15.59); Carvers Bay’s girls were eighth in the 4x800 (11:55.47).

Lower State

Georgetown County athletes won nine Lower State track and field titles.

Lewis Morant of Carvers Bay won the 100-meters (11.06) and the 200-meters (21.85, National Elite time).

Tiera Young of Carvers Bay won the 1,600-meters (6:29.04) and the 800-meters (2:45.82).

Desaree Green of Carvers Bay won the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches, National Elite distance). Green also qualified to compete in the long jump with a third-place finish (16 feet, 9 inches).

The Carvers Bay boys relay teams won the 4x100 (43.02) and 4x400 (3:35.58), and also qualified for state with a third-place finish in the 4x800 (9:14.63).

J.J. Sherman of Waccamaw won the 400-meters (49.68) and the long jump (22 feet, 10½ inches). Sherman also qualified to compete in the 200-meters with a second-place finish (23.06), and the 100-meters with a third-place finish (11.43).

An additional 17 athletes finished in the top four in events at the Lower State meet and competed for state titles:

Demasio Timmons, Carvers Bay: second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.06) and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.82).

Quemell Brave, Georgetown: second in long jump (22 feet, 6¾ inches), third in triple jump (43 feet, 6¼ inches), and 20th in high jump (5 feet, 8 inches).

Robert Jones, Waccamaw: second in the 1,600-meters (4:40.77) and fourth in the 3,200-meters (10:52.21).

Briley Arnold, Waccamaw: second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.81).

O’Neal Johnson, Carvers Bay: third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.75).

Xavier Drayton, Carvers Bay: third in the 3,200-meters (11.48.75) and fourth in the 1,600-meters (5:04.86).

Naquez Pringle, Carvers Bay: third in the shot put (48 feet, 6 inches).
