Where are Reid, Murray, media?

To the Editor:

In regards to the recent request to “up” zone certain parcels of property in and around the Parkersville community and highway 17 I would like to take a moment and remind the commission, the county, and the Parkersville community of my attempts to “down”zone a parcel also in this neighborhood.

My request, which would have protected eight acres in Pawleys Island from this very type of re-zoning and reduced density, was met with furor by the Parkersville community led by Norman Reid and Bill Murray.

The courthouse was packed with petitioners even our local news printed articles about this. I reached out to the community, planning commission and council members.

The commission, which was in favor of my plans and saw no reason to deny this request denied it for fear of the Parkersville communities outrage and put it in the hands of the council.

The courtroom, including Norman Reid and Bill Murray, erupted in applause and cheers at their victory. This is not the welcome I had hoped from my new neighbors so I withdrew my application.

Shortly thereafter I sold the property and the new owner has found good use for the eight acres and did not have to ask for permission from commission, council, or the Parkersville community.

He has constructed a large metal hanger and landing pad for his helicopter.

This new request to “Up” zone will certainly increase density which was the very ire of the Parkersville community. So I ask where is Norman Reid, where is Bill Murray? Is Bill Murray a party to this sale? Where is the media this time?

I am sure the commission and council members have already forgotten my request to “down” zone and will be consistent and deny this request or Perhaps the Parkersville community will rally again.
