J.J. Sherman wins two Lower State titles

Waccamaw High’s J.J. Sherman won two Class AA Lower State track and field titles and will compete for state titles in four events this weekend.

Sherman will be joined by seven of his teammates at the state meet.

The top four finishers in each Lower State event move on the state meet.

Sherman was first in the 400-meters (49.68), first in the long jump (22 feet, 10˝ inches), second in the 200-meters (23.06) and third in the 100-meters (11.43).

Robert Jones was second in the 1,600-meters (4:40.77) and fourth in the 3,200-meters (10:52.21).

Briley Arnold was second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.81).

Alex Hight was third in the discus (86 feet, 7 inches).

Amelia Jones was third in the 3,200-meters (12:50.08).

Leanne Thompson: third in the shot put (31 feet, 4 inches).

Mary Butler DeSpain was fourth in the 800-meters (2:37.66).

D’Etta Greene was fourth in the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches).

The girls relay teams finished fourth in the 4x800 (10:53.65).

Robert Jones: fifth in the 800-meters (2:10.87).

Grant Smith: sixth in the 800-meters (2:10.96), seventh in the 3,200-meters (11:37.91), eighth in the 1,600-meters (4:52.56)

Robert Green: seventh in the discus (113 feet, 8 inches)

Jackson Junkins: seventh in pole vault (8 feet, 6 inches)

Darnell Dodd: ninth in triple jump (40 feet, 2 ˝ inches)

Andrew Kopchynski: 10th in the 110-meter hurdles (18.75), 11th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.43)

Jakeem Armstrong: 11th in the long jump (18 feet, 6 inches)

Michael Dear: 12th in the 800-meters (2:27.11),

Corey Moeller: 13th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.71)

Mikey Knowlin: 14th in the discus (97 feet, 10 inches)

Relay teams: 10th in the 4x400 (3:53.68), 12th in the 4x800 (9:52.19)

Other girls results

Briley Arnold: 11th in the 100-meter hurdles (18.77).

Alex Hight: fifth in the pole vault (6 feet), 14th in long jump (13 feet, 11˝ inches), and 14th in the triple jump (28 feet, 5˝ inches).

Amelia Jones: fifth in the 1,600-meters (5:47.86).

Mary Butler DeSpain: 10th in the 1,600-meters (6:19.56).

D’Etta Greene: eighth in the 400-meter hurdles, 12th in the 100-meter hurdles (19.21).

Tyashia Edwards: fifth in the 400-meters, eighth in the 200-meters (27.90), 13th in the 100-meters (13.69).

Emily Blaylock: seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:16), ninth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.19), 16th in the long jump (13 feet, 8˝ inches).

Declyn Drejza: 10th in the 400-meter hurdles.

McKenzie Arnold: 11th the 1,600-meters (6:31.97).

Ciara Parker: 12th in the shot put (24 feet, 9 inches).

Allison Mays: 12th in the 400-meters.

Relay teams: ninth in the 4x400 (4:47.85).
