Troubled by Goggans

  • Wednesday, May 14, 2014

To the Editor:

I attended the Georgetown County Republican Club meeting where Steve Goggans and Bob Anderson spoke.

I have been very troubled by the answer Steve Goggans gave me regarding him having a conflict of interest bidding on County jobs should he be elected.

Abstaining from voting would not prevent his undue influence behind closed doors.

County employees might feel uncomfortable voicing their objections to his proposals and endorsing another company. In my mind it would be a huge conflict of interest for him or his companies to bid. Over the past several years he has been paid many millions of taxpayer dollars for various projects. My unsettling question is: Why is he running?

The majority of his support seems to be coming from business owners and the Donít Box The Neck crowd.

I for one feel we would have been better served with a Lowes Home Improvement Store rather than have another grocery store, gas station, dollar store and who knows what else on that corner.

The main thing I hear now is his objection to the median project on Hwy.17. The same people that prevented the home improvement Store are trying to prevent the median project. The one penny sales tax that was voted down in 2012 will be back on the ballot in 2014.

Follow the money, who will benefit the most? I donít think it will be the taxpayers.

Bob Anderson is a very qualified Councilman. He is retired and able to devote a great deal of time to his position. He has been very active in the Republican Party and represents the residents of his district.

I have a great fear that Steve Goggans was coerced in to running by developers and business owners that didnít get their way with County Council.

I look with very squinty eye at the money behind Mr. Goggans and wonder why, when I have never seen him at any Republican meetings or functions, all of a sudden he is a Republican.

Unlike our Senator Lindsey Graham who is spending a lot of money professing to be a Conservative Republican, Bob Anderson is a Conservative Republican and should be running unopposed in the Republican Primary.
