The Red Ribbon Parade and Kids Fest, created to celebrate the youth in Georgetown County, is Saturday, May 10.
The theme of Kids Fest is ‘Eliminating Gangs – Drugs – Violence.’
The event will start Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with a Red Ribbon Parade, which will begin on Front Street and conclude at East Bay Park where the Kids Fest activities will be held.
The Red Ribbon Parade will be in support of drug and alcohol awareness throughout Georgetown County and will include Georgetown City Police Chief Paul Gardner as Grand Marshal.
The guest speaker for the Kids Fest event will be Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson.
Kids Fest is an opportunity to show our care and appreciation to our youth while also
encouraging them to have a safe and drug-free summer vacation.
The Kids Fest activities, food, and drinks will be provided free to all participants. Some activities available will include a petting zoo, a rock climbing wall, face painting, and a jumping castle. In addition, winners of the Kids Fest theme poster contest will be announced.
Winners will be selected from participating students in area schools.
While the Kids Fest activities are being held, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office will be serving hot dogs, chips and water free of charge.
Some organizations participating in the event include the Department of Juvenile Justice, the Georgetown County School District, the Family Justice Center, Optimism Preventive Services, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, Teach My People and the YMCA.
Food Lion, Piggly Wiggly and Wal-Mart are sponsores for the event.
