David Maring to sign his latest novel

David Maring will be at Clock Tower Books on Saturday May 10 from 11:30- 1:30 p.m. signing his newest historical novel “Jefferson Davis: Before he Wore Confederate Gray.”

Clock Tower Books is located at 105 Screven St. in Georgetown.

Maring, a retired circuit judge, has published his fifth novel. The book, “Jefferson Davis

Before He Wore Confederate Gray,” is the first novel ever written on this important American political figure.

Maring takes the reader down the path Jeff Davis followed from his childhood to his time at West Point. He also explores Davis’ later exploits as an Indian fighter, congressman, Mexican War hero, Senator and Secretary of War.

This novel gives the reader an insight into the man who was responsible for the establishment ofthe Smithsonian and the present architecture ofthe Congressional Building.

The reader will learn of a man who suffered a great personal loss when his first wife, Knoxie, died of malaria within four months of their wedding, and how he reconciled with his father-inlaw, Zachary Taylor, while serving in the Mexican War.

The book explores the tribulations he suffered after he marries seventeen year old Varina

Howell. The reader will learn that despite the constant turmoil in their marriage and the loss of a child, their relationship survives.
