On April 19, “Tee Off for TW” was held at Caledonia Golf Club in memory of Todd Welden of Pawleys Island. Approximately 120 people showed up for the day’s festivities of golf, food and live music provided by the Band, Sushi for Breakfast.
It was a labor of love for the Caledonia staff and Welden’s family to work the event.
Caledonia owners and staff, along with Welden’s wife, Cam, wanted to host a one-time event to honor him and to provide a venue for friends and family to remember him.
Welden was the head golf professional/director of golf at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club from August of 1993 until his death in October 2013.
In addition to being an avid golfer and surfer, Welden loved motorcycles and was a zealous New Orleans Saints and Iowa Hawkeyes football fan. Those who were fortunate to know him, speak of his love for children and animals.
Although, he never had any of his own, Welden loved children. He enjoyed their laughter and playfulness. Because of this love, Healthy Learners of Georgetown County was chosen to be the beneficiary of the $9,000 that was raised in loving memory of Welden.
Healthy Learners is a faith-based non-profit that connects children to care so that poor health is not an obstacle to doing well in school.
Since opening in 2009, Healthy Learners Georgetown has helped 940 children receive 4,725 medical services and traveled over 100,000 miles transporting children to appointments.
Healthy Learners representatives Rebecca Lammonds. Georgetown coordinator, Lawly Ford, fund development coordinator, and Laura Tucker, Georgetown County School District’s lead nurse, along with some Healthy Learners, enjoyed the day as well. The children helped kick off the event, and enjoyed working alongside Welden’s family.
