There is a need for blood due to the rising deman and Waccamaw Community Hospital is holding a blood drive Friday, May 9, at Wachesaw Conference Center.
The drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the center, located at 4367 Riverwood Dr. across from the hospital in Murrells Inlet.
Appointments will take priority, but walk-ins are welcome.
To make an appointment, call 843-652-1135 or go to http://www.redcrossblood.org.
According to the Red Cross, the current need is acute because officials say wintry weather in January and February sharply reduced the blood supply for the area, and the summer vacation season when the demand increases is fast approaching.
In addition having a valid ID, blood donors must be healthy, be at least 17 years old and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds.
