Warriors capture both region titles

Provided Waccamaw High School's boys and girls track teams won region titles last week. Next stop: Lower State.

Waccamaw High’s boys track team won its first region championship since 2001 on Friday.

Coach Kip Chrismer was on that 2001 Warriors squad, winning the 100, 200 and 400.

The girls won their third straight region title.

Next stop for the Warriors and Lady Warriors is the Lower State finals on Saturday.

Boys results

• J.J. Sherman, first in 100, 200, 400 and long jump.

• Robert Jones, first in 1,600, 800 and 3,200.

• Grant Smith, second in 1,600, 800 and 3,200.

• Andrew Kopchynski, third in 110 hurdles, fourth in 400 hurdles.

• Jackson Junkins, third in pole vault (school record holder) and 4x800, fourth in 4x400, sixth in 400.

• Darnell Dadd, third in triple jump, fourth in 4x400, fifth in 200.

• Corey Moeller, second in 400 hurdles.

• Michael Dear, third in 800 and 4x800, fourth in 4x400.

• Jakeem Armstrong, third in long jump, fourth in 4x400.

- Robbie Green, fourth in discus, fifth in shot put.

• Mikey Knowlin, third in discus.

• Adam Paquette, third in 4x800, fifth in 3,200, sixth in 1,600,

• Jeremy Green, third in 4x800.

Girls results

• Amelia Jones, first in 1,600, 800, 3,200 and 4x800.

• D’etta Green, first in high jump, second in 400 hurdles, third in 100 hurdles.

• Tyasia Edwards, first in 200, second in 400, fourth in 100 and 4x400.

• Briley Arnold, first in 400 hurdles and 4x800, second in 200 hurdles and 4x400.

• Alex Hight, first in pole vault (school record holder), fourth in long jump, triple jump and discus.

• Mackenzie Arnold, first in 4x800, second in 3,200, third in 1,600, fourth in 800.

• Emily Blalock, first in 100 hurdles, third in long jump, fourth in 400 hurdles.

• Mary Butler DeSpain, second in 800, third in 3,200, fourth in 1,600.

• LeAnn Thompson, first in shot put, fifth in discus.

• Ciara Parker, third in discus, third in shot put.

• Declyn Drejza, third in 400 hurdles, fifth in 100 hurdles.

• Allison Mays, second in 4x400, third in 400.

• Lillian Eddy, first in 4x800, fifth in 1,600 and 500.

• Raven Brooks, fifth in long jump and triple jump.

• Shirey Quigley, second in 4x400.

Carvers Bay

The Bears and Lady Bears both won region titles last week.

The boys dominated the meet, accumulating 256 points to beat C.E. Murray (86), Hemingway (70), Timmonsville (36), Scotts Branch (33) and East Clarendon (0).

The girls also dominated scoring 160 points to beat C.E. Murray (61), Hemingway (51), Timmonsville (22) and

Scotts Branch (4).
