Professor earns Boss Women Rock Award

Stacey Reed, an English instructor, jointly employed by Horry-Georgetown Technical College and Benedict College, has been deemed one of the most outstanding female English faculty in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Benedict College in Columbia.

On April 17, the Benedict College Service Learning and Leadership Department, winner of the Washington Center Higher Education Civic Engagement honor, awarded Professor Reed the Boss Women Rock award for her selfless service to her craft and the Benedict College community.

The former vice president and president of the National Association of African American honaors programs demonstrates commitment to her discipline through her role as lead English faculty for Benedict College's English department; a certified service learning trainer by the Institute of Global Education and Service Learning; an honorary member of the Benedict College School of Honors; and an honorary charter member of the Benedict College Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society.

Reed's advocacy service-learning project, which gave her students a platform to persuade the South Carolina General Assembly, senators, and representatives to advocate level funding of South Carolina grants, earned college-wide publication in the the Benedict College service-learning faculty manual.

Reed currently holds a Bachelor of Arts, English from Benedict College, Master of Arts, English from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX.
