Optimist International Zone 6 Oratorical Contest was held on Wednesday, April 23 at 6 p.m. at Pines Lakes Country Club in Myrtle Beach. The competition included participants sponsored by the North Strand Optimist Club, the Grand Strand Optimist Club, and the South Strand Optimist Club. The South Strand Optimist Club’s had three entrants who won two first place and one second place awards.
The winners included: Amani Huell, first place (female Orator); Sam Averette, first place (male orator), and Jacob Homan, second place (male orator.) All of these students attend Waccamaw High School and are members of the Speech and Debate Team.
The South Strand Optimist Club is privileged to have sponsored these young people in their oratorical endeavors. All in attendance were treated to exceptional oratorical skills of all participants. The topic of this year’s contest was “How My Passions Impact The World.”
The first place winners will represent Zone 6 in the SC District (State of South Carolina) Oratorical Contest on Saturday, May 3 in Columbia.
The South Strand Optimist Club serves the Town of Surfside Beach, the communities of Burgess, St. James, Garden City Beach, Murrells Inlet, the Waccamaw Neck, and the City of Georgetown.
