Tidelands Hospice seeks scholarship candidates

  • Friday, May 2, 2014

Tidelands Community Hospice was started 27 years ago through the support and grassroots efforts of volunteers, the medical community and friends in the community.

They had a vision for a comprehensive program ministering to the terminally ill. This program would provide care and support for the patient and family, as well as provide education about and advocacy for end of life issues. Currently Tidelands serves patients in their homes as well as in our Hospice House, the first and only one in operation to date.

Mary Atmar Johnson, affectionately known as “Mamar,” served on the original committee that brought Tidelands Community Hospice into being and helped to make it what it is today. To perpetuate the cycle of Tidelands compasssion and commitment to our patients and families, the Mary Atmar Johnson Scholarship was established to honor the memory of this Tidelands pioneer advocate.

In her honor two $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually to two individuals who are or will be pursuing a degree in the field of Social Work or Nursing. Candidates for this scholarship must meet the following qualifications:
