Waccamaw falls 6-3 to St. James

Waccamaw High’s baseball team finished the regular season with a 6-3 loss to St. James on Monday night.

The Warriors will now turn their attention to their first-round Class AA playoff game at Andrews on Thursday night.

Against the Sharks, the Warriors fell behind 3-0 in the first two innings, cut it to 3-2 in the third and then gave up three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Waccamaw rallied for one running in the top of the seventh for the 6-3 final.

Andrew Reichert and Curtis Lawing both went 2-for-4 with one run to lead the Warriors’ offense. Levi Almond, Dalton Hendrix and Zach Sparaco also had hits.

Carter Fox gave up nine hits and three walks in five-and-a-third innings and took the loss.

Waccamaw was coming off a second-place finish at the Mingo Bay Baseball Classic last week.

The Warriors won three games before losing 8-5 to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., in the championship.

Jack Monroe and Justin Colegrove each had two hits in the championship game.

Waccamaw beat Audubon, N.Y., 6-1 in the semi-finals.

Tucker Perry scattered four hits and struck seven in six innings to pick up the win.
