DHEC warns of phone scam

  • Tuesday, April 29, 2014

The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control warns the public of a fraudulent phone caller posing as a health department employee seeking private information. The caller reportedly contacts citizens and inquires about recent surgeries, saying the citizen might be eligible for reimbursement. DHEC is not associated with this phone scam and has referred the incident to the S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

If a DHEC employee were to contact you, the employee will provide appropriate identification and a legitimate phone number.

If you receive a suspicious phone call, contact your local law enforcement.
