The focal point of the April Andrews Town Council meeting centered around the swearing in of the town’s new police chief and his welcome to Andrews.
The newly appointed police chief of Andrews, Chief K. Capers, said Andrews is a beautiful community with a lot of great citizens “even though there is a small bit of crime, we’re going to take care of that, like Barney Fife said, we’re going to nip that in the bud.”
“Thank you to everyone. It’s a great honor to be the chief of police here and with God’s wisdom and divine guidance I pray that I do a good job for the city,” Capers said.
As Town Council members welcomed the new police chief, David Tisdale and Eddie Lee said they are very happy to have Capers here and Patsy Greene offered her congratulations. Sudha Patel welcomed him and said she hopes she will get to know him better. “I wish you the best,” she said.
“I can’t say enough about him,” Mayor Giles said. “He does a lot all over the state. He has a big heart and I’m sure he’ll go a great job here.”
Valencia Thomas, the former mayor of Society Hill, where Capers was chief of police, said you could not have hired a better chief.
“He’s a professional and gets the job done. He cares about people. I’m so very proud of him advancing and I’m so sorry to see him leaving,” she said. “Please take care of him.”
Others chimed in to welcome the new chief while others said they’ll miss him deeply.
Capers promised he would be around for a while and “looks forward to doing great things.”
