Last week was National Volunteer Week across the country. Tidelands Community Hospice celebrated their volunteers with a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at the Hospice House. Tidelands has more than 200 volunteers in the areas of patient care, administrative duties, resale shop, church watchmen, culinary committee, and Hospice House greeters. A lunch was provided for them with a “Picnic” theme. Red and white checker tablecloths covered the tables and homemade desserts and fried chicken were served. Each volunteer received a pin for their service years. There were quite a few who have been a volunteer with Tidelands Hospice more than 20 years. One of those volunteers is Ojetta Smith. Miss Ojetta, who came with her daughter, is 96 years old. She was so honored to receive a 20 year service pin, as honored as Tidelands is to have had her as a volunteer.
