A fire in Murrells Inlet this morning has resulted in four injuries with at least one person in serious condition.
The fire was reported shortly past 9 a.m. in a second floor condo at Riverwood Condos on Lotus Court off of Old Kings Highway after an explosion was heard. There was heavy smoke showing when the first firefighters from Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire arrived on the scene.
Two people escaped the fire by jumping from a window and two others were rescued after firefighters arrived.
By 9:25 a.m., everyone was out of the condo and the bulk of the fire was knocked down. Help was requested from Midway Fire Rescue because of the number of patients.
According to our news partners at WBTW-TV 13, The fire was contained to one unit.
The four people injured are now in the hospital. Two injuries are described as burns, the other two are considered cardiac patients.
All four were transported to Waccamaw Hospital. The two people who jumped out will remain in the hospital. The two people who fire crews rescued are at Waccamaw but will be transported to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia.
