Georgetown Communications is pleased to announce the appointment of Anne M. Sheehan as its new editor.

Georgetown Communication grew from South Carolina’s oldest newspaper, the 214-year-old Georgetown Times. Over the past several years Waccamaw Times serving DeBordieu, Pawleys and Litchfield and Inlet Outlook covering Murrells Inlet and Garden City were added. In January SouthStrandNews.com was launched featuring the latest news from all the publications and communities Georgetown Communications serves.

Sheehan came to Georgetown from Summerville, where she most recently served as the managing editor of the Summerville Journal Scene. That was just the latest stop in career spanning three decades of journalism and editing for community newspapers.

Before coming to South Carolina, Sheehan’s career path included upstate New York, New Hampshire, United Kingdom and Maine.

“We feel very lucky to get someone aboard with Anne’s experience and accomplishments,” said publisher John Carr. “In addition to her work behind the editor’s desk, Anne likes to be in the field and is also is very anxious to become active in our community.”

Sheehan has won numerous professional recognitions and awards. Most recent are first-place awards with the South Carolina Press Association. She was also Journalist of the Year in Maine, a Pulitzer Prize nominee and recognized by the state of Florida for community-wide Hurricane Andrews relief effort among several others.

“All of us in Georgetown County know what a special place we are lucky to part of, and Anne also saw it instantly,” said Carr.

“Georgetown is beautiful place, rich with history,” said Sheehan. “It is the type of community I really enjoy living in, working and becoming a part of. I feel lucky and excited to be here.”
