An Andrews man entered a guilty plea Wednesday in connection with the March, 2013 shooting death of his girlfriend.

Carnell Antonio Kennedy, 33, of Big Bay Road, was sentenced to 21 years in prison by Circuit Court Judge Edward Cottingham after pleading guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter.

Kennedy shot his girlfriend, 31-year-old Yvonne Holmes, four times in her Claire Street apartment, according to Senior Assistant Solicitor Erin Bailey who prosecuted the case.

After shooting Holmes, Kennedy called her mother, Vanessa Holmes, and told her what he had done. He then went next door to the apartment of Yvonne Holmes’ aunt and told them what had happened.

Holmes’ 10-year-old son was in the apartment when the shooting took place but authorities said the day of the incident he was in bed and did not witness the killing.

Holmes’ mother said Holmes and her son were ”in love.”

Holmes’ mother said her daughter had been dating Kennedy and they were all together just hours before the shooting took place.

“Everyone was laughing and talking,” she said, adding she did not detect any problems between her daughter and Kennedy while they were all together that afternoon.

Holmes worked at Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort.
