Warriors and Bulldogs eye Mingo Bay titles

High school baseball teams from around the country are in the Grand Strand area this month for the 2014 Mingo Bay Baseball Classic.

Local host sites are Waccamaw, Georgetown, St. James and Socastee high schools.

Games are also being played at Conway, Aynor, Carolina Forest, Loris, Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach high schools.

The Bulldogs, Sharks and Braves start competing Monday; the Warriors start competing April 21.

Next week’s schedule is:

Mike Johnson Park

Monday: Princeton W.Va., vs. Dreher, 5 p.m.; Georgetown vs. Central Pageland, 7 p.m.

Tuesday: Dreher vs. Central Pageland, 5 p.m.; Georgetown vs. Princeton W.Va., 7 p.m.

Wednesday: Princeton W.Va., vs. Central Pageland, 5 p.m.; Georgetown vs. Dreher, 7 p.m.

Warrior Field

Monday: Newark, N.Y., vs. Pal-Mac, N.Y., 10 a.m.; Southwestern Central, N.Y., vs. Trinity Christian, W.Va., noon.

Tuesday: Trinity Christian, W.Va., vs. Pal-Mac, N.Y., 10 a.m.; Southwestern Central, N.Y., vs. Newark, N.Y., noon.

After Wednesday’s games, the teams will be seeded and there will be semi-final games on Thursday. The winners of Thursday’s games will compete for titles on Friday.

The schedule for the week of April 21 is:

Warrior Field

April 21: Audubon, N.J., vs. TBA, 2 p.m.; McClancy, N.Y., vs. Sherman, W.Va., 4 p.m.; Waccamaw vs. Wilson Hall, 6:30 p.m.

April 22: Audubon, N.J., vs. Williamsburg Academy, 4 p.m.; Waccamaw vs. Sherman, W.Va., 6 p.m.

April 23: Williamsburg Academy vs. TBA, 2 p.m.; Waccamaw vs. McClancy, N.Y., 4 p.m.; Sherman, W.Va., vs. Wilson Hall, 6:30 p.m.

There are also games April 21 at Socastee, and April 21-23 at Myrtle Beach, April 22-23 at Conway, and April 22 at Carolina Forest.

After Wednesday’s games are complete, the teams will be seeded and there will be semi-final games on Thursday at Waccamaw, Myrtle Beach and Carolina Forest. The winners of Thursday’s games will compete for titles on Friday at Waccamaw and Myrtle Beach.
