Pearle Barrineau

Pearle Abbott Floyd Barrineau, age 90, of Andrews, widow of Freddie James Barrineau, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Hospice of Charleston Hospice Center in Mount Pleasant, S.C.

Mrs. Barrineau was born in Green Sea on August 15, 1923, a daughter of the late Johnce Floyd and Sarah Helen Shelley Floyd.

She grew up in Green Sea and graduated from Green Sea High School in 1940.

Mrs. Barrineau earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Limestone College in Gaffney in June of 1944.

She taught school for 34 years and retired in March of 1979.

Mrs. Barrineau was a member of First Baptist Church of Andrews, where she taught the 16-year-old girl’s Sunday school class for almost 20 years.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, and working in her flower garden.

Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews, including Thomas O’Neal Barrineau Jr. of Charleston, S.C., who she thought of as her son, and Patrice Payne Hooper of Daniel Island, S.C., who she thought of as her daughter.

In addition to her husband, who she married on August 12, 1960, and her parents, Mrs. Barrineau was predeceased by six sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Andrews.

Officiating will be the Rev. Paul Sapp. Burial will follow at Andrews Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service in the church.

Irene Baxter

Irene Forester Gattshall Baxter, age 93, died April 5, 2014 at Tidelands Community Hospice House, Georgetown.

For over 25 years she served as a Sunday School teacher and youth minister at First Presbyterian Church, Sumter, SC and youth advisor for Harmony Presbytery where she is affectionately remembered as “Mother Goose.”

She was born to the late Hampton N. Forester and Esther G. Forester Nov. 28, 1920 in Sumter, S.C.

She was predeceased by her husbands, M. Wayne Gattshall and John R. Baxter; daughters Judy G. Parker and Patti G. Lockhart; son-in-law, Clif Hawkins; one brother and one sister.

She is survived by her daughters, Sally G. Johnson (Frank), and Elizabeth G. Hawkins; Dick Baxter and Anne Baxter; many grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Abbey at Pawleys Island, Carriage House, Litchfield Plantation.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m.

Family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., followed by a burial at Sumter Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church Sumter, Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church, or Tidelands Community Hospice.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.
