  • Friday, April 4, 2014

Wendell C. Powers was arrested on April 3 for tax related charges.

SC Department of Revenue officials charged Powers, 64, with five counts of Failure to Collect or Pay Withholding Tax. Powers could face fines up to $50,000 and/or up to 25 years in prison.

For tax years 2008 through 2012, Powers paid wages to his employees and withheld South Carolina income taxes but failed to report the taxes withheld from his employees or remit the taxes to the South Carolina Department of Revenue. The total outstanding tax liability for tax years 2008 through 2012 is $28,960.

Powers is currently being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
