Truluck Industries and its sister entity, Truluck Properties, have expanded north.
The Charleston companies have purchased Pawleys Island’s iconic Hammock Shops, the first property for the companies north of the Charleston area.
In a way, it’s a homecoming for Jodi Truluck, whose husband, Brad Truluck, and his brother Chuck Truluck, will initially manage the property for the company.
Jodi Truluck grew up in Pawleys Island and shopped at the Hammock Shops, a landmark since the 1930s.
First on the agenda for the center’s new owners are roof repairs and landscaping. Also on tap are interior and exterior painting, parking area repairs, and general cleanup and maintenance.
More than 20 businesses call the area home, and it’s not unusual for the businesses to jockey for position as one store moves out. The central courtyard has been the location of the Easter egg hunt, among other activities.
The Trulucks are not unaware of the area’s history.
“We are ecstatic to add this legendary asset to our family’s properties.
Our family has a history of acquiring assets that we can own for a lifetime and of all the retail properties we have looked at, none of them carry the iconic nature and history of the Hammock Shops. We decided to make this long-term legacy investment because we believe in this landmark property.”
