“How My Passions Impact The World” Optimist International Oratorical Contest

The South Strand Optimist Club honored its’ winners of the Optimist International Oratorical Contest at its’ monthly meeting on March 20 at Applewood House of Pancakes.

The winners of the female contest were: first, Amani Huell, Waccamaw High School; second, Alexandra Jaouiche, Waccamaw High; third, Coya Darcangelo, Waccamaw High.

The winners of the male contest were: first, Sam Averette, Waccamaw High; second, Jacob Homan, Waccamaw High; third, Andrew Gasperson, St. James Middle School.

This program featured the oral presentations by three of the winners.

This program was sponsored in loving memory of Harold Owen, charter member of the Club, by his family.

“We are excited about the opportunity to recognize the youth of our community,” said Marty Waltemyer, president of the South Strand Optimist Club. “This program will become an annual event.”

The South Strand Optimist Club serves the Town of Surfside Beach, the communities of Burgess, St. James, Garden City Beach, Murrells Inlet, the Waccamaw Neck, and the City of Georgetown.
