Chetna Patel became the runner-up with the word jomon. Chetna Patel will be going to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. if the winner is not able to go.

Lowcountry Preparatory School 7th grader Chetna Patel also won first place at the SCISA State Spelling Bee. The spelling bee was held on March 12 at the Williamsburg Academy. Only Chetna and another speller were left. The other speller missed the word surveillance. Chetna went up and spelled the word surveillance and then she had to spell one more word to win. The word was infinitesimal. Chetna spelled it right and won the 7th grade SCISA State Spelling Bee. Emily Skillman also won the third place for her grade. Cambree Werther, Emily Fairfield, Emily Skillman, and Chetna Patel brought home the trophy for the overall 2nd place SCISA State Spelling Bee for their school Lowcountry Preparatory.
