Fatal fire claims life of 12-year-old who was home alone

A 12-year-old boy was killed in  a fire in Andrews early Saturday and now investigators are trying to determine how the blaze started and why the child was home alone.
Georgetown County Deputy Coroner Chase Ridgeway says the child, Dave S. Cohen, died in the fire in the mobile home at 10 James Drive - which is off of Miller Road near Jones Avenue. The fire was reported at about 1:30 a.m.
County Assistant Fire Chief Tony Hucks confirmed firefighters were told the mobile home was vacant when the call was dispatched.
Ridgeway said the family was in the process of moving out of the mobile home which may be why the caller thought the house was empty.
He said the Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are "trying to put the pieces together" as to why Cohen was alone.
Ridgeway said the child's mother did respond to the scene after the fire broke out and was "in shock." He said the child's father does not live in the area.
An autopsy will be conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina to determine the exact cause of Cohen's death.

We will post more information when it is received.
