Sheriff's Office issues new information about fatal fire in Andrews

  • Saturday, March 29, 2014

New information: The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office has issued a statement regarding this morning's fire in Andrews that claimed the life of 12-year-old Dave Coombs.
Coombs was home alone when fire broke out at the mobile home at 10 James Drive.
Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson - in a release issued at about 10:50 a.m. - states "according to the family, they recently moved to a new home. The victim attended a birthday party and did not answer calls from his mother. In the process of the investigation, it was determined the victim returned to the house instead of their new home without the family's knowledge."
She said the case is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. ______________________________________________________________________

The name of the victim has not been released but Deputy Coroner Chase Ridgeway says it is a 12-year-old male. He said an autopsy will be conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Flames were already engulfing the mobile home when emergency workers arrived on the scene.
