A man wanted in connection with a weekend shooting has been arrested by Georgetown police and the Drug Enforcement Unit. But the man who was shot has also been charged in the case.
Two others have been charged with being accessories to the case.
Georgetown Police Capt. Nelson Brown said Kwamane Edward Smith, 21, of 259 McKenzie Circle, Pawleys Island was found at a Myrtle Beach hotel on Highway 501 and was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon charged with attempted murder.
The shooting happened at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in Bayview at a home across from the community playground.
Bullet holes pieced the front wall of the home feet away from where children's toys are scattered across the front lawn.
Brown said 39-year-old Mark Ellis was shot in the abdomen and underwent surgery at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
The Bayview home where the shooting took place is where Smith's girlfriend lives, Brown said.
“The motive for the shooting is believed to be drug related,” Brown said.
On Tuesday, Ellis was also charged with attempted murder.
Brown, on Wednesday, confirmed a report by a neighbor that Ellis arrived at the house in a vehicle before the shooting occurred. He said Ellis got out of the car and forced his way inside the house.
Moments later is when multiple shots were fired, the neighbor said.
Brown said Ellis and Smith were firing shots at each other but Smith escaped without injury.
He said Ellis "broke into the house over drugs and money."
According to the charges, after Smith left the house, he was assisted in hiding by Mary Alice Shaluly and Christopher Brown, also of Pawleys Island. Both are charged with harboring a fugitive. Brown is also charged with trafficking in heroin.
