WEST COLUMBIA – South Carolina Virtual Charter School (SCVCS), a full-time, tuition-free public charter school option, announced that they are now enrolling students entering grades K through 12 for the 2014-2015 school year. The South Carolina Virtual Charter School uses award-winning Ką˛ curriculum to offer students an exceptional learning experience and, with support from South Carolina-certified teachers, SCVCS provides the individualized attention and learning tools students need to succeed.
Students who enroll in SCVCS will receive an academic program which includes engaging web-based lessons that complement and expand upon traditional education methods. Books, videos, CDs and other hands-on tools and instructional materials are shipped directly to each student’s home, providing kids with an interactive environment that makes learning both dynamic and fun. SCVCS offers a complete range of courses, including accelerated classes, foreign languages, Advanced Placement, SAT preparation and credit recovery, as well as the core curriculum comprised of English/Language Arts, Math, Science, History, Music, and Art.
High school students can participate in a dual enrollment program that allows them to take courses through local community colleges and universities to earn high school and college credit. Offering a strong college and career focus, SCVCS provides guidance for post-secondary exploration, finding scholarships, seeking financial aid, and understanding college entrance requirements.
“Built on individualized learning and flexibility, SCVCS’s virtual education model is designed to encourage and foster academic success for all students, without sacrificing any of the important social events that go along with this time in their life,” said Dr. Cherry Daniel, SCVCS Head of School.
Teachers at SCVCS provide instruction and support by regularly interacting with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings. By working closely to help pace the curriculum to meet individual goals for advancement, teachers can adjust their lesson plans to the student, not the other way around.
SCVCS students are invited to participate in school outings, field trips, picnics and other social events throughout the year, making for a well-rounded experience. In addition, students are encouraged to participate in a range of extracurricular activities, as well as a national network of 100+ clubs that cover a wide variety of interests.
In 2013, a record number of 125 students graduated from SCVCS earning more than $2 million in scholarships, and 94 percent of the school’s seniors enrolled in higher education with ACT and SAT scores that exceeded the state average. In addition, SCVCS End of Course test results exceeded the state average in 3 of 4 courses.
To help parents and children learn more about the program, SCVCS will host free community events and online information sessions throughout the year. Families can find more information on upcoming events and how to enroll by visiting http://www.k12.com/scvcs.
