Three shot by BB guns at birthday party

  • Sunday, March 23, 2014

A birthday party in Choppee Saturday night ended when three people were shot with BB guns.

One victim had to be transported to Grand Strand Hospital.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson said it happened at about 8:30 p.m. at a party at the Choppee Health Complex located at 8189 Choppee Road.

She said about 75 people were in attendance.

“Apparently a fight occurred between two different groups which escalated into several victims being struck by BB's,” Cuthbertson said. “Deputies identified three juvenile victims from the BB incident.”

The victim transported to Grand Strand Hospital was shot in the face, according to initial reports from the scene. One victim was transported to Georgetown Memorial Hospital. The condition is unknown.

The third victim suffered a minor injury.

Cuthbertson said several suspects have been identified but there are conflicting stories and witnesses are refusing to cooperate.
