Leonard Payne Jr.

Leonard Phifer Payne Jr., age 77, of Andrews died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at his residence.

Mr. Payne was born in Trio on June 20, 1936, a son of the late Leonard Phifer Payne and Anna Vincent Smith Payne.

He grew up in Andrews and graduated from Andrews High School.

Mr. Payne served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 and retired from Westvaco after 32 years of employment.

He was currently employed with Smith Logging.

Mr. Payne’s first love was his family, and his second love was restoring classic cars.

Surviving are his wife, DeLaine Barrineau Payne of Andrews; a son, Derrick Phifer Payne of Andrews; a daughter, Patrice Hooper of Daniel Island, S.C.; three grandchildren, Alvin Mark Hooper Jr., Zachary Chambers Hooper, and Lauren Anne Hooper; a brother, Gerald Payne (Penny) of Pawleys Island; a sister, Alicia Payne Graham of Andrews; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, March 23, 2014, at Andrews Memorial Cemetery.

Officiating will be the Rev. Paul Sapp and the Rev. Murray Powell.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday evening, March 22, 2014, at the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the church or charity of one’s choice.

Miriam Reardon

Miriam Gause Reardon, age 74, of New Zion, widow of Robert Danel Reardon, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at her home after a long illness.

Mrs. Reardon was born November 10, 1939, in Florence County, a daughter of the late Harvey and Lela Belle Hicks Gause.

She was a graduate of Georgetown High School and Williamsburg Technical College.

Mrs. Reardon and her husband Daniel were the owners of B&R Restaurant in Kingstree from 1974 to 1990, and when the restaurant closed she worked at Piggly Wiggly.

She was a member of Kingstree First Free Will Baptist Church, had enjoyed playing piano at her former church in Georgetown, and was an avid gardener.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Reardon was predeceased by a brother Preston Gause.

Surviving are her son, Brian E. Reardon and loving daughter-in-law Penny Reardon, of New Zion; two grandchildren, Katrina Lynne Hiott of Summerville and Robert Collin Reardon of New Zion; two step-grandchildren, Jessica Altman of Moncks Corner and Lucas E. Teaster of Lake City; four great-grandchildren; a brother Charles Michael Gause of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; and a sister, Linda G. Reeves of Florida.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014, in the chapel of Williamsburg Funeral Home, with burial in Kingstree Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. just prior to the service at Williamsburg Funeral Home.

Vera Springs

Vera Ellen Lambert Springs, age 66, wife of James J. “Jimmy” Springs, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Tidelands Community Hospice House.

Born on April 7, 1947, in Georgetown, she was a daughter of the late Fields Lambert and the late Lena Hartley Lambert.

Mrs. Springs was a woman of faith and lived each day to serve her Lord.

She was a member of Georgetown Church of God and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include her husband of Georgetown; two children, Alton “Al” Sanders (Kim) of Georgetown and Wendy Martinez (Edward) of Kingsland, Ga.; four grandchildren, Little Al Sanders and Ryan Northrup, both of Georgetown and Christian Martinez and Maygen Martinez, both of Kingsland; four great-grandchildren, Kylee, Ryan Jr., Abigail and Lillyanne; three brothers, Charles Lambert, Basil Lambert and Junior Lambert; five sisters, Earnestine Bryant, Nita Hanser, Mary Tilton, Vivian Bazen and Shirley Tyler; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alton Sanders, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Georgetown Church of God with the Rev. Ossie Deese and Rev. Edward Martinez officiating.

Burial will follow in the Sampit United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at Graham Funeral Home.
